About the Enterprise Sanitation Department

If there are heroes in Enterprise without uniforms and sirens, it’s the Sanitation Department workers. Every day, they haul away tons of trash, branches, old furniture, and paint cans. Their work rarely makes the news, but it’s what keeps the city clean and tidy.

Automated Garbage Collection

The Automated Garbage Collection Program has been in operation in Enterprise since 1997. Each house receives a container, and then everything works like clockwork. The main rule from the department is to keep the containers clean. They recommend washing them with soapy water and using a bleach solution for odors. This way, the bin does not turn into a surprise for neighbors and garbage collectors.

To start using the garbage collection service, you need to visit the Water Department at City Hall at 501 S. Main Street. There, they will fill out the paperwork and sometimes take a deposit. From that moment on, your address will be added to the route, and the containers will begin to be emptied on schedule.

If you have any questions about payment, call the Water Department: (334) 347-1211 ext. 2250.

What to do on holidays

Garbage trucks only take time off on official holidays. During those weeks, the pickup schedule is shifted. The schedule is published in advance for residents. The most recent version is the 2025 Garbage Pickup Schedule, available on the city’s website.

Sometimes the container is standing by the curb, but the truck has not arrived. The rule is simple: if your trash has not been picked up by 2:00 p.m. on the designated day, call the Sanitation Department at (334) 348-2665. The dispatcher on duty will take your request and send a truck.

Yard waste and branches

Residents love to take care of their yards, but the department has clear rules.

  • Branches and tree parts must be no thicker than 6 inches and no longer than 6 feet.
  • They are placed behind the curb, but not on the road.
  • Boxes, crates, and cardboard bales will only be picked up if they are placed next to the container.
  • Newspapers and magazines can be left at the curb, but also off the street.

If the yard is cluttered with a large amount of debris, removal will cost $25 per full trailer. The amount will be added to your water bill.

Missed your day? You can take your yard waste to the shredding site on East Drive (located off Coppinville Road) yourself. To do this, you need to obtain a permit from the Public Works Department and confirm that you are a resident of Enterprise.

How to dispose of special waste

The Sanitation Department is also responsible for ensuring that hazardous materials are correctly disposed of.

  • Paint. Cans must be completely dry. You can leave them in the sun or add sand with cat litter filler.
  • Aerosols. Cans must be empty. Spray paint residue should be sprayed onto cardboard until the can is empty.
  • Oils and fluids. Oil, grease, and transmission fluids are accepted at the Public Works workshop on Glover Avenue.
  • Batteries. They are also accepted there.
  • Tires. Can be dropped off at the Public Works office. The fee depends on the size.
  • Old sofas and appliances often become a problem in the yard. In Enterprise, this is easily solved.
  • Appliances are placed on the curb, and the Sanitation Department is called to arrange for removal.
  • Furniture can be taken out on the scheduled day. If the volume is large, you will be charged $50 plus $20 per ton at the landfill.

These services help residents get rid of junk and keep the city looking neat.

What the department does not collect

There is waste that the owners themselves are responsible for. This includes construction debris, such as bricks, plaster, concrete, soil, and debris resulting from repairs. These items are not collected. The contractor or owner must find a way to dispose of them themselves.

The Sanitation Department is dedicated to ensuring the comfort of residents, maintaining clean streets, and promoting the order that tourists appreciate. Enterprise loves order. It is no coincidence that a monument was erected here to the pest that taught people to change their habits. The Sanitation Department does something similar, teaching residents to treat waste with respect.

A resident washes a container to prevent odors. A neighbor puts branches behind the curb. A Public Works employee collects batteries and oil. These simple actions add up to the overall picture of a city where the streets remain clean and residents feel cared for.

The Sanitation Department in Enterprise is part of city life. They quietly do the work that would quickly erode the city’s southern charm. From the container at home to the recycling site on East Drive, everything is under control. If the trash hasn’t been picked up, there’s a phone number to call. If you need to get rid of an old sofa, there’s a solution.
