Q. |
What is the "Environmental Fee" that I see listed on my monthly water bill? |
A. |
The Environmental Fee is applied to both new and existing customers who utilize the City of Enterprise's sanitary sewer system. The revenues obtained from the above-instituted, Environmental Fee shall be used only for matters related to the City’s wastewater collection, treatment and disposal system and for the upgrading, maintenance, materials, labor, equipment and supplies to keep said system in compliance with applicable rules, regulations and mandates.
Due to new mandates placed on the City of Enterprise's sanitary sewer system by the Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM), the City will be adding a monthly flat fee on all Residential households utilizing the City's sanitary sewer system. This fee does not apply to Residential households on a septic sanitary system. The applicable fee will be identified on the monthly water bill as a Sewer Environmental Fee to be effective on January 1, 2006. The Sewer Environmental Fee will increase yearly through 2009, for a period of four years, as follows: Jan. 2006 $5.25; Jan. 2007 $7.00; Jan. 2008 $8.75; and Jan. 2009 $10.50. The bills released in February reflecting January's usage will be the first bill to reflect the new fee.
For Commercial customers utilizing the City's sanitary sewer system, a Sewer Environmental Fee will be added as a result of the new ADEM mandates placed on the City of Enterprise. The applicable fee will be identified on the monthly water bill as a Sewer Environmental Fee to be effective on January 1, 2006. The Environmental Fee will be assessed per 200 gallons water used with a minimum fee. The Sewer Environmental Fee will increase yearly through 2009, for a period of four years and scheduled as follows: Jan. 2006 - $.08 per 200 gallons water used with a minimum fee of $5.25; Jan. 2007 - $.106 per 200 gallons water used with a minimum fee of $7.00; Jan. 2008 $.134 per 200 gallons water used with a minimum fee of $8.75; and Jan. 2009 $.16 per 200 gallons water used with a minimum fee of $10.50.
